چکیده

Managing interest rate risk requires measuring it first. Duration analysis has become an important tool, allowing portfolio managers to measure the sensitivitv of their portfolios to changes in 'the level of interest rates. But duration analysis has a number of serious drawbacks. Standard duration analysis, for instance, allows for only parallel shifts in the term structure. Thus portfolio managers may remain exposed to sub70 stantial risk arising from nonpar(Y) m m

On Non-existence of a One Factor Interest Rate Model for Volatility Averaged Generalized Fong–vasicek Term Structures

We study the generalized Fong–Vasicek two-factor interest rate model with stochastic volatility. In this model dispersion is assumed to follow a non-negative process with volatility proportional to the square root of dispersion, while the drift is assumed to be a general function. We consider averaged bond prices with respect to the limiting distribution of stochastic dispersion. The averaged b...

The Importance of Forward-Rate Volatility Structures in Pricing Interest Rate-Sensitive Claims*

Studies of the sensitivity of the prices of interest rate claims to alternative specifications of the volatility of spot and forward interest rates have drawn different conclusions. One possible explanation for this is that it is difficult to adjust the volatility structure without disturbing the initial set of bond prices. In this chapter we use a term structure-constrained model that lets us ...

Fundamental Properties of Bond Prices in Models of the Short-Term Rate

This article develops restrictions that arbitrage-constrained bond prices impose on the short-term rate process in order to be consistent with given dynamic properties of the term structure of interest rates. The central focus is the relationship between bond prices and the short-term rate volatility. In both scalar and multidimensional diffusion settings, typical relationships between bond pri...

Multifactor Interest Rate Dynamics and Their Implications for Bond Pricing

This paper studies the importance of the most commonly used factors in models of the term structure and contingent claims prices, as well as the importance of one seldom used factor. To this end, the paper develops a continuous-time, four-factor model of the term structure. The factors include the instantaneous interest rate, its volatility, its long-run mean, and a factor that is \independent"...

Approximate Formulae for Pricing Zero-coupon Bonds and Their Asymptotic Analysis

Term structure models give the dependence of time to maturity of a discount bond and its present price. One-factor models are often formulated in terms of a stochastic differential equation for the instantaneous interest rate (short rate). In the theory of nonarbitrage term structure models the bond prices (yielding the interest rates) are given by a solution to a parabolic partial differential...
